Make art that transcends medium at Prompts for People. If you've ever wanted to mess around with interesting sounds and instruments, or just want to listen while doing some arts and crafts or even have some idea about how that all comes together, here is your opportunity to experiment, find inspiration, and meet like-minded people. Find yourself a creative friend and join us as we puzzle together some sound and craft! Join us after the show for a drink or meal downstairs at the pub!
SPECIAL NEWS! Our special guest at the event will be the incredible Hirofumi Uchino who has performed at multiple Backstage gigs. Hiro is an Australian-based Japanese artist known for creating "noise" related performances, objects, and exhibitions, and is the founder of "Defektro" .
This is a free event but space is limited.

The Eveleigh hotel is a short walk away from Redfern train station.
“Prompts for People” will be held in the upstairs room, which is only accessible via two short flights of stairs ( approx. 12-16 steps). There is an accessible bathroom downstairs. Service dogs are welcome and there is a park just behind the pub that would be suitable to take them to.
At this event, you can expect a consistent low-level ambient composition to run through the entire event. As participants are given freedom to improvise, some aurally overwhelming sounds may occur due to the nature of the acoustic instruments, as well as potentially unsettling overlapping of multiple sound sources at once. 2026 Backstage Music Interns - Josh Davey and Evelyn Lan!
Josh Davey is an experimental producer, composer and artist who blends a unique palate of influences to create intriguing works reminiscent of trawling the depths of the internet for lost media. Releasing and performing under a plethora of titles and pseudonyms, Josh found an audience in late 2023 among the Australian online underground rap scene, working with numerous like-minded artists and forming connections that led to opportunities performing live in venues such as the MetroTheatre, Oxford Art Factory, and more. As a Digital Music and Media Undergraduate student at Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and an Intern at BackStage Music, Josh has developed a wide array of refined technical skills in digital audio composition techniques, as well as practice in organising events and musical experiences in many different contexts.
Evelyn Lan (they/she) is an emerging composer based in Sydney. With a range of electronic, ambient, and classical influence, she is passionate about composing and mixing film music and music for different forms of media. Backstage provides a great opportunity to meet like-minded young people and to gain insights from experienced musicians and organizers. It is also a great experience to improve her musical, practical, and industry skills, which will be invaluable for her developing music career. Website: evelynmusic.com
