ALL ABOUT BANKSTOWN ARTS CENTRE
Detailed Information about how to get to the venue and it’s accessibility is available through Bankstown Arts Centre website.
VISUAL STORY - What to expect.
-
When you arrive at the venue a staff member will be waiting at the front door welcome you and check your ticket. If it is busy, there may be a short queue of people waiting to enter.
-
Entry : When you enter the centre you will be in a large lobby with the reception on your right. Straight ahead is a set of stairs up to some glass doors. To the right of the stairs is a corridor to the bathrooms.
Courtyard : When you go through the glass doors it opens out to the a large grassy courtyard area with a jacaranda tree and native trees further away towards the railway line. The courtyard is framed by a covered walkway that has a small step down to the grass. Follow the walkway around to your right and then left. The entrance to the theatre will be on your right.
Theatre: To enter the theatre you go through 2 sets of doors (someone will probably check your ticket at the door). The theatre is a large black box style space with the performance space on the left of the entry and raked seating to your right.
-
Most of the the music in Azimuth will be quite low sensory. See notes in the sensory guide and program notes for more info. There is an expectation that audiences will generally be quiet during the music making but you are welcome to talk in between the pieces and show your appreciation after the performances! You are welcome to leave, or re-enter the space if you need a break. The outside courtyard is quiet space to sit.
-
The concert will end at approximately 8.45 pm. When it finishes, the lights will come up, and you can leave through the same entrance you arrived through. Audience and artists will be mingling in the courtyard after the show - you are welcome to stay and join in.
SENSORY GUIDE
Volume: The production Azimuth features seven curated pieces of various volumes. Many pieces include the mixture of electronic and acoustic instruments and present a dense multitextured body of sound that immerses the space. (Those sensitive to sound may experience overstimulation with some of the denser pieces featured in the lineup)
Crowds: Crowds will be the densest in foyer areas of the Bankstown Arts Centre. Outdoor sections will be open to audiences to reduce this. Within the performance space, crowds will be concentrated to the main seating section.
Music style to expect: Azimuth presents multiple experimental music pieces that range stylistically based on the represented journey of each of the performers. Significant cultural musical elements are present in several pieces as an expression of each of the performer’s individual cultural backgrounds.
Visuals/Lights: The performance will feature visual projections in a number of pieces. The space will utilise a split lighting technique where dimmer lighting will feature in the stage area and the audience will be lit by ambient lighting.
Smells: There will be no scent elements utilised for this performance. Any smells present will be a result of the theatre space as is.
More detailed notes about each piece can be found in the program notes.
