This program is a celestial reflection on the eternal recurrence of time and the cyclical nature of life. Love-Death Music is a work that presents George Crumb’s visionary and ground-breaking Makrokosmos (Book 1) in a unique and imaginative way. Pianist Sonya Lifschitz joins forces with one of Australia’s most remarkable and versatile performance artists - Christine Johnson (musical saw, vocals and spoken word) in a program which brings together music, projection and improvisation to amplify the mystical, otherworldly quality of Crumb’s music. To open the night, Luke Gerber presents Steve Reich’s energetic work for electric guitar Electric Counterpoint.

LUKE GERBER is a Sydney based producer, composer, educator, guitarist and bass player. He has grown up loving song-writing, rock music, electronic music, and pop music. However, studying a music degree at UNSW has seen him develop a passion for experimental and new music. His practice includes being involved in projects that cover all these bases. This sees him playing bass for psych pop band Micra, producing and playing with electronic projects Mel Blue and Ed Wells, and performing in the UNSW New Music Ensemble.
