Info for artists
Composers and performers will be paired to collaboratively create a new 1 minute piece and an accompanying resource. Each pair will agree upon a technical/conceptual aspect that forms the focus of the work. Miniatures/resources will be collated and shared via the BackStage website to be freely accessed by students, educators, composers, performers etc. Individual artists will be commissioned $350 each.
For the first iteration of this project, participating composers and performers will be required to collaboratively develop:
SCORE of miniature
ANALYSIS of miniature (short - dot points)
DESCRIPTION/DEFINITION of the technique or limit set by the composer/performer. (short sentence or two)
DEMONSTRATION of technique short video by the performer with composers as target audience. (consider how the technique works best and any special considerations for its success such as register or dynamic)
PROFILE of composer and performer - could take the form of a fun interview or just links to composer/performer individual websites
PERFORMANCE of the piece (video or audio)
OPTIONAL: EDUCATION ACTIVITIES that are connected to the process of creating your own work.
COMPOSITION - Generating ideas for a new piece of music using X technique/idea
PERFORMANCE - How to achieve X technique
LISTENING - Related video/audio of a work that features X technique in a solo or ensemble context)
COLLABORATION - An activity based on your own collaboration process.
