Do you have a project idea you've never had the chance to explore? Are you searching for interesting, talented people to collaborate with, but don't know where to start?
Join us on Observatory Hill as BackStage Music Youth Lead Audrey Ormella and our interns Eden, Kiara, Xavier and Natalia invite young artists from diverse disciplinary backgrounds to come together as the creative community of the future. This picnic day aims to provide a space for artists to disconnect from technology and re-connect with what makes art so intrinsic to humanity - other humans!
Musicians, visual artists, dancers, designers, producers, composers, architects, writers, poets, singers, instrumentalists, performance artists, illustrators, animators, photographers, actors, filmmakers, directors, event managers, choreographers, DJs, engineers and ALL CREATIVES are encouraged to attend. Bring a friend, eat, connect, and pave the way for the projects of tomorrow.
Some snacks and drinks will be provided - bring along your favourite picnic snacks to share! Share your music by adding songs to our picnic playlist.

Meet your hosts.
Audrey Ormella is an emerging composer based in Sydney, Australia. Her practice is inspired by the mangroves and birds of her local river, personal stories and visual arts.
Early opportunities have led to commissions and performances from Coro Innominata, Trinity College Choir from the University of Melbourne, and by performers Anna Fraser and Jane Sheldon. She has worked with youth and children’s choirs, and in August 2023 and 2026 had 650 primary school children perform her work at the Sydney Opera House.
Audrey enjoys working with unique colour combinations, having previously written for pipa and violin duo, as well as baryton, tuning forks and two solo sopranos. In 2024 an ‘operatic song cycle’ Time Has Legs, created with Hunter Bailey Watts and Grace Pfab, blended electroacoustic sounds and textures with live musicians. In November 2026, Ensemble Offspring will premiere a new work by Audrey as part of their Hatched Composer Academy.
Audrey acknowledges the Wangal and Gadigal people, whose cultures, histories and voices are embedded in the lands she lives and works on.
